Among all the cars that I have owned, Honda City is the car I consider the best. Apart from being one of the most comfortable cars, the fuel efficiency of the vehicle is simply amazing. The vehicle is such a pleasure to drive around and the gear shifts are very smooth. There is plenty of leg space and the seats are very comfortable to travel even long distances. The vehicle’s suspension is designed specially for Indian roads and the special shock absorbers provided ensure a very smooth ride. When I decide to buy a new car, I will certainly buy the later model of Honda City as I believe it is the best car that is available in the moderately priced vehicles.
My favorite class during my school days was History. I was always interested in knowing more details about different places and about their history. Though many of my classmates considered history to be a boring subject, I used to love the subject. Also my history teacher was very good and that made it all the more interesting. I feel the best way to know about any place is to start by knowing its history, how and when the place came into existence. Also any historical buildings that remain in those places interest me a lot. The place’s culture and the people’s habits and customs are all points of interest to me.
Being a wild life enthusiast, I always love to travel to sanctuaries whenever it is possible. Though I love watching most animals in the wild, I love to watch a tiger prowling in the wild forest. The sight of these magnificent beasts in the wild forests
thrills me and the fact these animals are becoming extinct very fast is a real shame.
They are such majestic animals and are a real treat to watch. Spotting them is sometimes difficult as they usually do not move around the forest during the daytime. The best time to spot them is early in the morning, when they go to the nearest waterhole to quench their thirst. Their roars alone can create such terror to the other animals.
When we were kids we lived in a school campus, even though my parents were not teachers and were not employed by the school in any capacity. The three years we lived in the school premises are the most cherished years in my life. During school vacations we kids had the run of the campus and were out playing all day. But in the afternoon, we did not have the mandatory nap but would spend the hottest hours of the day playing a traditional board game. The players were in two groups. Each group may have as few as a single member or as many as half a dozen. Each team will have a leader. For our game, my mother was the leader of one team and her friend was the leader of another team. Every kid was included. If the kid can roll a pair of dice, which rectangular rods with dots on each face, he or she was team member. What a riot that used to be, with each one of us screaming at the top of our voices, including my mother, asking for a particular number to be thrown! At the end of the game my mother will treat us kids to delicious snacks and tea. Those were the days…
It takes a specific type of person to hang tree wall art. These unique people enjoy the simplicity of our roots. They share an interest in our environment and the importance of keeping it close to the heart. They try to mimic nature in their dearest place — their home. They can use any number of ways to create this wall art. If one is creative, the use of tacks and yarn can be used to form a silhouette of a magnificent tree along a wall. Another easy way to incorporate trees into our wall decor is simply painting trees. My final idea of bringing nature home is finding free tree branches and arranging them artfully.
I find that I am rather old fashioned when it comes to enjoying a movie. I cannot stand the senseless violence and the ‘steamy’ scenes in movies. Are they necessary to make a movie enjoyable or memorable? Take for instance the movie,’ Not one less’. It tells such a simple story but the story remains a pleasant memory for all times. Or take ‘The lilies of the valley’. The movie has so much gentle humor and gives one much to think about. I have seen Walt Disney’s ‘The sword in the stone’ ever so many times. Most of Disney’s full length cartoons have great music, a wonderful sense of humor and, yes, gives you something to think about. Then there are the sad movies that really make your heart ache. I can still feel the sadness of ‘Who will love my children?’ What will I choose as my number one favorite? The BBC production Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’! I must confess that the choice is based not just on the production, and the story but on Colin Firth too!
Decorating your home should be a fun and easy task depending on how you want it to look. I believe that Wall Art is something that all homes should have. If you do not decorate your walls, your home will be empty even though you have stuff in it. You can put all kinds of stuff on the walls. Pictures are the best though that I have come to like. My wall has all kinds of wall decor, from metal pieces to paintings and abstract drawings, not to mention most of my walls are painted in various color schemes.
When I see how tough it is for kids these days I am so glad that I am old! What the kids have to go through in our school system these days is nightmarish. The parents put a lot of pressure on the kids and the kids do not seem to have time to be kids at all. When went through school and college we had such a great time. We really learnt to think and be responsible without having to be disciplined. Our teachers were our role models. The pupils were their ‘kids’. School at every level, and College too, was free of any kind of stress. Bright students were encouraged to do realize their potential and the not so bright ones were helped to do their best. We made friends and our problems were rather petty and simple – here one moment and gone the next. Of course, each one had a favorite teacher and would always want to do our best for our special teacher. Labs in College were a lot of fun. Many of the friendships made during school lasted a life time. I can never forget my special friend. To think that I actually liked the exams, though I would die rather than admit it! That was because the questions challenged our ability to think. What I hated most when I was in primary school was my mother wanting me tell her what exactly I wrote as answers to the questions!
I had always wanted to feel the breeze in my face while riding a bicycle but that has remained an unfulfilled dream. I never learnt to ride one. We do not own a car or any other type of vehicle. We do not in the least feel the need for owning a vehicle. I think that it would not only be an expensive possession but one which will constantly give us trouble. Where we live, we can always get around comfortably and quickly in an autorickshaw. Now that every one has a cell phone, autorickshaws, or autos as we call them, are just a phone call away. Each family has their regular auto and the auto drivers become like part of the family. When take our man on our trips into town, he will oblige us by running a lot of errands so that we would not have to keep getting in and out of the auto to make enquiries or pick up something. The roads in our town tend to be very crowded with all sorts of vehicles. If we are driving a car we will have a really tough time getting through the traffic. Autos being small are very maneuverable and can easily get out traffic jams. For our grandson, there is no adventure greater than sitting next to the auto driver and feeling the thrill of passing large vehicles with perhaps just inches to spare! He would have bitten his nails to the quick but he will not give up the chance to be scared out of his wits. I guess that is what being young is!
I just can’t take to rock music or to a lot of modern instrumental music. I can never tire of listening to classical music, both western and carnatic music. I love folk songs, not just from my country but from several other cultures too. Somehow, such music takes me out of myself and I can forget all my grouches and bad temper when I listen to my favorite music. We have a good collection of music at home and we keep adding to it. There was a time when I did not care for carnatic music but that has changed. I really like the ragas and the talas, especially when it is instrumental music. I just love L. Shankar’s compositions which blends both the carnatic and western traditions. Unfortunately, in our small town, songs from movies are very popular and CDs of these are readily available. But we are hard put to find CDs of our kind of music locally.
